Fredrik Fjeld Kløvstad

Fredrik Fjeld Kløvstad (b. 1985)

The artist lives in his childhood home in Hasle in Oslo. He currently has his studio here. At a young age he found inspiration in graffiti, of which there was an extreme amount along the freight train line at Økern in the early 2000s. Breaking with societal norms interested him on all fronts of life. So the many facets of life form the basis for Fredrik's tough and heartfelt line in both drawing and painting.

In recent years, Fredrik has worked from his studio in Studio Halv and with larger formats. On canvas and wooden panels. The large portraits in the exhibition November wood/mood, which was shown in Munchx in November 2021, are painted on the back of plywood panels that a kitchen was wrapped in, which he installed at a celebrity chef's house when he worked as a carpenter. Fredrik likes to paint on surfaces other than just the classic linen canvas.

Fredrik's paintings are usually in strong colors and with elements of one continuous marker or pencil stroke, springing from his inner palette and moving through the observations of the subconscious and all impressions from reality seen through his two eyes. It is most often portraits that he paints that he needs to express as a desire to understand and concretize this strange feeling we call life.

In the summer of 2021, Fredrik was invited to participate in Hvitsten Salong, which is the most important artist-driven gathering associated with Theodor Kittelsen's home and studio in Østfold. He has also had several exhibitions in his own garden and been represented in several group exhibitions, including in Norske Grafikere, Atelie, Munchx and Studio Halv, where he also had a solo exhibition in the fall of 2021.
