Acrylic paint and marker on canvas
Size h 120 × w 90 cm
Year: 2026
The painting is part of the exhibition "Körper und Geist". In this exhibition there has been a collaboration making works with Ole Fredrik Hvidsten.
However this is Fredrik's own production of paintings where the motif is portrait-like forms. Fredrik paints with powerful colors and strokes. His paintings are built up layer by layer. His process starts with lines, which are often connected as a long line. This meanders across the canvas. The first layers form the background for the next layers and eventually – the final layer.
Much like the choices we make throughout life. And sometimes it is as if such an overview is like a blank canvas for Fredrik. He paints over and starts over. Other times the "memories" shine through more clearly. In the last layer he shapes the final personification, which at the same time preserves everything he has created in the process over time.
The pine frame was created by the artist to complement the rough look of the painting. The frame also provides a symbolic and tactile layer through the life lines of the tree – through the layers that make up a tree.
